Maksim Veselov, Russian terrorist from Pskov Oblast in Luhansk region

Just one “guest”. There are thousands of such Putin’s vacationers in Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

Maxim Veselov (Веселов Максим Сергеевич, archived vk.vom profile) from Velikiye Luki, Pskov Oblast, Russia. His town is more than 1000 km away from Luhansk.

(Upd: ok.ru profile, pbs4ukr profile)

Veselov dwells in Luhansk region as a Russian mercenary at least since February 2015. Holubivka (ex Kirovsk) is mentioned as his current location. He was spotted in Dovzhansk (ex Sverdlovsk), near Stanytsia Luhanska, in Kadiivka (ex Stakhanov), near Schastya etc.

Albums.

Tactical sign “#42 in square” is used by 12БТрОРим” = the 12th battalion for territorial defense Rim (one of “LNR” gangs, Rim is the Russian word for Rome), located in Dovzhansk (ex Sverdlovsk). So called “Sverdlovsk Cossacks regiment“.

The red letters read РИМ (RIM)

At a school with schoolgirls:

Probably, this “tourist” is still in Lihansk region, his last photo is posted on August 3, this one:

A bit of Luhansk-2014

Just some flashbacks by Thomas Sillesen from #Luhansk-2014:

(This office is here.)

Donbas Khatsapetovka, Ukrainian word for Podunk

Khatsapetovka, the name of Ukrainian town’s Vuhlehirsk  it had until 1958. Khatsapetovka became common usage as one of synonyms for ‘out-of-way, remote place’,  ‘nowheresville’, ‘Podunk’ in Ukrainian and Russian languages for many speakers.

The name became so common, that most of native speakers think it is a hypothetical town, which never existed in reality.

But it exists near Horlivka, not far from Debaltseve. For now it is in occupation and ‘guests’ from Russia who pretend to be local ‘tractor drivers, coal miners’ don’t even know they hold occupied Ukrainian Podunk.

This is how the Russian world was coming to Vuhlehirsk:

“Donbas Dictionary”: New York and Dresden in Donbas

“Dresden”
Unofficial ironic name for Toretsk (Dzerzhynsk before 2016), the name ‘Dresden’ is mostly used by inhabitants of nearby cities – Horlivka, Kostyantynivka, Bakhmut and is pretty rarely used by Toretskers.
“New York” (NYC, NY, Нью-Йорк)
The name New York is often unofficially used for Novhorodske, urban-type settlement in the west from Horlivka, Donetsk oblast. Novhorodske was New York (Нью-Йорк ‘Nyu York’) util 1951, then it was renamed as Novhorodske after Novhorod city in Russia.

“Donbas dictionary”: kopanka, Olkhovka, Luhanka, Stanytsia

kopanka (копанка, pl. kopanki ‘dug pit/hole‘)
1. small makeshift illegal coal mine in the Donbas, south of Luhansk region and north of Donetsk region
2. shallow water well or hole for collecting water (usable in this meaning all over Ukraine in both Russian and Ukrainian)
Luhanka (Луганка)
Local name for Luhan river Luhansk city’s name is derived from, Luhan flows through Luhansk, ‘official’ name Luhan is normally never used. Transliterated Russian version for Луганка is Luganka, but it is pronounced by most of Luhanskers as Luhanka
Olkhovka (Ольховка)
Local name for Vilkhivka river, which flows through Luhansk, both ‘official’ Russian name Olkhovaya (Ольховая) and Ukrainian Vilkhivka (Вільхівка) are normally never used
Stanitsa or Stanytsia (Станица/Станиця)
short name for Stanytsia Luhanska, a settlement not far from Luhansk on the opponent bank of Donets river. In Russia the word stanitsa (станица) stands for ‘Cossack village’ and is often used as a common noun in geographic names like hamlet, village, town, settlement etc. In Ukraine Stanytsia is unique, so Russian journalists make typical mistake using “stanitsa Luganskaya” (станица Луганская) in their pieces instead of correct Stanytsia Luhanska (Станиця Луганська in Ukraininan or Станица Луганская in Russian)

Vineyards as a geographic problem for Donbas ‘tractor drivers’

Yesterday so-called journalist Aleksandr Kots @sashakots, who recently got together with his colleage Steshin medals from Shoygu personally, for “participation in Syria military operations”, wrote:

Translation: “#Promka. Vinohradnik [=’vineyard’] village”. Every day Ukrainians pound it with 82mm, 120mm and 150mm“.
[archived]

Probably, someone of Russian troops located there called “Vineyards” a village talking to Kots. Pretty silly mistake, as for Donbas inhabitants. A Donbas local laughs at Kots:

Untitled-3

Translation: “Damn lowbrow. Vinohradniki [=vineyards] is a dachas community, not a village. What a hillbilly“.
[archived]

In Donbas, ‘Vineyards‘ is a pretty common name for dacha summer cottages settlement or allotment gardens (moreover it doesn’t matter if there are vines or apple trees), i.e. no permanent residents are there unlike a village. There are ‘Vineyards’, for example, near Popasna (#1, #2), Zuhres, Panteleimonivka, and other Donbas towns. Here are Avdiivka vineyards, promoted to a village by Kots, on the map:

Another yesterday’s Russian fail is described in this tweet:

The problem is that such silly reports by people, who are not familiar with elementary Donbas geography at all, are multipled in social networks, Russian mass media, may be sometimes reposted by Ukrainian media and many people accept such rubbish  in all good faith.

Olenivka 2016-04-27 shelling

Just some notes in one post.

Olenivka (rus. Yelenovka) is a village on Donetsk-Mariupol route, controlled by Russians for now.

Uspenske reservoir near Luhansk, drills of Russian occupation army’s local formations

Some “news agency” in occupied by Russians Luhansk reported on April 14 on “large scale drills held by Luhansk militia“.

They wrote much rubbish there about “illegal Ukrainian government” and its “decree on genocide against own people”, but they forgot to mention where the drill was held. Let’s help them:

It was Uspenske reservoir some 20km away from Luhansk.
